Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s » compensation saw a significant increase of 63% in fiscal year 2024, reaching approximately Rs 665 crore. A recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) » disclosed this jump, particularly in Nadella’s stock awards, which rose from $39 million in the previous year to $71 million. This substantial increase highlights the continued strong performance and growth of the company under his leadership.
Interestingly, the filing also revealed that Nadella had requested a reduction in his cash compensation. He attributed this decision to concerns about cybersecurity threats and hinted at potential geopolitical issues, referencing a possible “China angle.” The company has faced several high-profile cybersecurity incidents recently, which may have influenced his choice.
In addition to ongoing concerns, Microsoft experienced notable breaches, including a major global outage in July 2023 that affected Windows users worldwide. A report by the US Department of Homeland Security in April further revealed that Chinese state-sponsored actors had successfully breached email accounts of US officials, a fact that Microsoft confirmed later that summer.
