This substantial increase highlights the continued strong performance and growth of the company under his leadership.
Interestingly, the filing also revealed that Nadella had requested a reduction in his cash compensation. He attributed this decision to concerns about cybersecurity threats and hinted at potential geopolitical issues, referencing a possible “China angle.” The company has faced several high-profile cybersecurity incidents recently, which may have influenced his choice.
In addition to ongoing concerns, Microsoft experienced notable breaches, including a major global outage in July 2023 that affected Windows users worldwide. A report by the US Department of Homeland Security in April further revealed that Chinese state-sponsored actors had successfully breached email accounts of US officials, a fact that Microsoft confirmed later that summer.
